The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) and the Business Environment Council (BEC) jointly launched a guidance booklet (ref. 1) on waste reduction for major community events in 2017 (ref. 2) to assist event organizers and related stakeholders in formulating waste management strategies to achieve waste reduction and clean recycling as well as to enhance environmental performance.

In addition to the guidelines mentioned in the booklet, CARe2018 will include the following “green event” arrangements:

  • The conference aims to be environmentally relevant and as such we will be adopting environmentally sound practices. Printouts/brochures are limited only to necessary materials which the event partners and sponsors might wish to distribute during the event.
  • Wi-Fi connection is available within the campus during the event to promote the use of e-copies.
  • The gala dinner will be low-carbon. Other meals during the conference can be redeemed through a food coupon system, which will help reduce food waste.
  • Guests are expected to bring their own water bottles and retrieve drinking water from water dispensers available around the campus.
  • Participants are encouraged to recycle their name badges and other promotional materials collected from the event.
